Moving In

Mom has settled right in and has had a smile on her face since. We are so proud of everything and would not change a thing. It's amazing to all of us on how it all came together. She now has lights, phone and of course Dish Network with HBO and Showtime. She will never leave the house now!! I will take pictures of her house now that everything is unpacked and in its place. You will see for yourself why we are so excited about this home.

Here you go, Betsy, pictures of the "Move In" day.

Curtis is coming through with boxes. Everyone is backing out of the way so he can't run them over.

Can you find Mom? Her artificial grass kinda got bent in storage.

She is still smiling!!

We Passed Inspection!

Just got the word that the inspection passed!! WooHoo!! Now utilities can be turned on and we can start the "Moving In" process. It would not surprise me one bit to see Mom standing at the front door with her bed, impatiently waiting for electricity and water.

Almost Finished

It is getting down to the end. We now have the carpet, tile, ceiling fans, window blinds, and curtains. The dishwasher has been installed and the countertop is in but we don't have a current picture of it yet.

This is Charlie, our plumber. He currently works for Hawk Buildings and 2 other building contractors. He works on the side trying to get built up to get out on his own. If you remember, he was the one we mentioned earlier in the blog about the plumbers coming and going so fast we were unable to get pictures. Well we caught him long enough to snap his picture. He's been doing a great job for Mom, and he even cleaned up before he left. He didn't mind listing his cell if anyone needs plumbing done. Its 325-721-5609. Thanks Charlie for your hard work. We can't wait to see you again because when we do, we know you are putting your finishing touches on this special home!

Mark and Kelly from Knight Carpet did the tile and carpet in Mom's house. They certainly deserve all the praise we can send them on the tile, because there are so many corners, which means so many cuts!! The carpet was done well too. And since they did such a great job, we would like for them to install tile and carpet in our house, and we hope they are going to be available. Great job to Mark and Kelly, we appreciate your hard work and for giving us your best toward this special home for our Mom.

Pediatric Brain Cancer Research

I am taking a short break from the building project to insert a short public service announcement.

Everyone... take a look at this website, http://www.4zachary.org/. My friend Angei put this together to bring awareness and to raise money for pediatric brain cancer research. She knows first hand how devastating this can be! There is music so turn up the volume. Also, if you could please pass this link on to all your contacts.

Thanks!!

Have We Got The Update For You!

Electrical panel, trim around the windows, and a/c unit...

Trim around the bathroom window...

Tremendous progress has been made over the last week. We intentionally waited before posting this update so we could give you lots to look at. I will narrate the update as we move from room to room. I will let you know what progress has been made in each room and what is left to be completed. Let's start with the living room.

Living Room...

We have the air conditioning/heating unit installed as well as a programmable thermostat. All windows have been framed/painted and cleaned. Baseboards have been installed and painted. We have electrical outlets as well as light switches. We are still waiting on the door and air intake vent for the air/heating unit, ceiling fan, and carpet.

This cute light fixture will shine light on the table and it has a switch for it right below it.

You can really pick up the texture on the walls in this picture. They look really nice.

Kitchen...

The cabinets have been installed and are now stained. We have wallpaper on the north wall and a border on the south wall. Paneling, half way up, has been installed behind the washer/dryer. We have outlets, light switches, smoke detector, overhead light and baseboards. We still need tile, countertop, and plumbing.

We have a pantry door but still need shelves inside. The border is currently only on the south wall. We ran out of border and as soon as we receive more, we will continue it around the corner.

Do you notice that 2 of the cabinets, on either side of the window, do not have doors yet? Stained glass will be inserted into these doors.

Nice view from the bedroom doorway.

A closer look at the border.

Bedroom...

The windows have been cleaned and trim has been installed/painted. We have switches/ outlets and a smoke detector.

The baseboards have been installed/painted. We have a bedroom door as well as closet doors...

...and a bathroom door. We still need the ceiling fan and carpet.

The camera picked up alot of dust in the air. We had just finished sweeping the floors right before pictures.

Bathroom...

I personally think this room has made the most progress. We have a light fixture, fan, wallpaper, border, window trim...

...vanity, paneling, baseboards...

...water heater doors...

...linen cabinet...

...door, outlets, and light switch. We still need plumbing, tile, and wallpaper/border. We ran out of wallpaper and have ordered more. One wall has not been completed.

Doesn't everything look gorgeous!

Texture and Paint

A big thank you goes out to Mike Mikeska of Mikeska Home Improvement. He did the sheetrock, tape and bedding, and the texture. I know its hard to see the texture in the pictures, but it really does look great and it adds so much character to the walls and ceilings! If anyone needs painting done, he can do that also!

Thanks again, Mike, job well done!

Let's start off with the living room. I will post the pictures together, first the texture, then the paint.

The paint looks really good and soon we will have kitchen cabinets and wallpaper.

Our crew is falling apart! Majority of the crew is just getting over swine flu, one with a sinus infection, one possible sinus infection and swine flu, and one with removal of skin cancer. Luckily, the homeowner is just fine!! So when we bid kudos to the paint crew, it is well deserved!!
